Burning the Christmas Tree

We burned our Christmas Tree this year and it was only afterwards that we read that it can be pretty dangerous. Thankfully nothing went wrong and I actually managed to get some interesting pictures of the process. The colours were beautiful and through the camera, it almost looked fake. It burned so quickly and brightly and each of the leaves burned a bright orange. It was a beautiful sight and despite the fact we won't be doing it again, I don't regret doing it at all.

Richard Tuttle: The Weave of Textile Language

I went to the TATE Modern predominantly for the Sigmar Polke exhibition but was glad of the fact I could see this installation at the same time. As someone who really enjoys textiles mainly in the construction of clothing, this piece by Richard Tuttle really interested me. I loved the attention to detail when it came to sourcing his fabric. The richness of the colours are beautiful and it is just such an intriguing piece. I love the mix of material and the way you can see how the wood was joined together. The spaces in between the panels of wood work really well. I think it is lovely how Tuttle has managed to capture so many of the ways that fabrics can be manipulated; the draping, the hanging, the bunching and gathering. I also thought it was interesting how the whole piece hung. You would've thought the red section would be planted on the floor, but it hung almost awkwardly. Despite this, I think it was an awkwardness that really worked. The composition of all the different components was so effective and it filled the Turbine Hall beautifully. It also made for a lovely thing to photograph as I am really loving the opportunity to use such a lovely camera. I really tried to capture it from all angles, using all available viewing spaces to take pictures and I am pleased with the outcomes.

Journey to the TATE Modern

I went up to the TATE Modern to see the Sigmar Polke exhibition and decided to take some pictures of my journey there, both at Blackheath Station and the along the journey from London Bridge to the TATE. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome of them. The first picture shows the frost on some of the plants at Blackheath and I thought the colours were beautiful and I loved how the frost brought out the detail in the plants. The second couple of pictures are of small birds that were flying around together. I managed to get a couple of good shots of them despite how quickly they were moving. I like how the second shot shows the defiant bird sitting on the stick after having pushed the first one off. I also like the blurred quality to the first picture which  captures the movement well. The next set of pictures show the walk up in London. I liked the first picture due to the mix of angles and how reflective the surface is. The second picture I really liked due to its composition. The positive and negative space works really well in my opinion. The third picture has a really nice contrast between the old of the church and the new of the Shard. I like how you've got the opposing warm tones of the church and the cool tones of the church. The two peaks are complimentary as they stand side by side. The last three I liked due to the warmness in tones, the angles I captured and I was just impressed with how well the colours came out.

Oxleas Wood

We went for a walk in Oxleas Wood and I managed to capture a few shots I'm pleased with. The sky was such a gorgeous blue for most of the afternoon with the haziest of cloud scattered across it and this worked beautifully as a background for the trees. I think this is one of my favourite ways to capture the trees. I really like the angle of the second pictures with the left tree curving round to the right and the perspective really gives the feeling of reaching up into the canopy. The close up of the bark on the third picture was something I particularly liked due to it's texture. I could really imagine incorporating it into my art; maybe using different materials such as expansion foam, paint and maybe using bark within it too. I thought the brightness of the wood in the fourth picture was lovely and I like how the branches reach out into the right top corner of the photo. And then finally I am really happy with how the sunset came out in the last picture with the silhouette of the trees in the foreground.
