Journey to the TATE Modern

I went up to the TATE Modern to see the Sigmar Polke exhibition and decided to take some pictures of my journey there, both at Blackheath Station and the along the journey from London Bridge to the TATE. I'm fairly pleased with the outcome of them. The first picture shows the frost on some of the plants at Blackheath and I thought the colours were beautiful and I loved how the frost brought out the detail in the plants. The second couple of pictures are of small birds that were flying around together. I managed to get a couple of good shots of them despite how quickly they were moving. I like how the second shot shows the defiant bird sitting on the stick after having pushed the first one off. I also like the blurred quality to the first picture which  captures the movement well. The next set of pictures show the walk up in London. I liked the first picture due to the mix of angles and how reflective the surface is. The second picture I really liked due to its composition. The positive and negative space works really well in my opinion. The third picture has a really nice contrast between the old of the church and the new of the Shard. I like how you've got the opposing warm tones of the church and the cool tones of the church. The two peaks are complimentary as they stand side by side. The last three I liked due to the warmness in tones, the angles I captured and I was just impressed with how well the colours came out.

Dora Abodi

I amazingly had the opportunity to attend the Dora Abodi London Fashion Week show back in the Summer. This was a last minute affair and I found out the morning of the show whilst in the midst of an Open Day at Ravensbourne. This was the first of hopefully many shows I will visit in my lifetime and it will definitely stick in my memory. The whole atmosphere of it all was amazing; the clothes the people were wearing, the photographers at the end of the catwalk, the room itself was stunning and worked so well with the clothes that were showcased here. The lights that worked with the models and music were beautiful and I was just in awe. I loved the bright, bold colour palettes and prints. The mixtures of glossy black feathers and metallic weaves. The elements of sheer fabric and structured leather to form a striking combination. I surprisingly managed to get some good photos whilst being able to take in the show. I especially liked the use of headwear; silky bandannas and scarves in golds and purples worked beautifully with the clothes, and at the end, horns adorned the heads of the last two models. I thought these were particularly striking and merged so well with the aesthetics of the garments. The show really prompted me to research more into Dora Abodi and I have so far really liked what I have seen. I was especially interested to find that she was Hungarian, as I was soon to visit the capital, Budapest. I have since visited and it is stunning.

Park Walk

I went for a walk with my family the day after Boxing Day and decided to bring my camera. I was particularly looking for interesting angles and hidden features as much of the park was the same as any other green leafy area. The first photo is of an abandoned park office. I liked how nature is reclaiming this building with plants growing up the drain pipe and moss on the roof. The dishevelled, distressed nature of this building appealed to me more than a pristine home would have as it seemed to retain more charm and history. The colours were beautiful too as the greens of the moss faded into the washed out browns of the bricks. The other pictures I took are of trees. The first couple of pictures I liked due to the angle I managed to capture. The way the branches reached upwards created a lovely shot. The last two photos I love as the branches remind me of veins. The way they branch off from each other and diminish in size really appeal to me and I like how they look contrasted against the almost white of the sky.

Night Pictures

I received my first camera for Christmas this year and took a variety of pictures on a walk that evening. These are some of my favourites. I think the sky was particularly beautiful and I'm so glad it came out so well on the camera. I was particularly looking for interesting angles and architectural features and also kept an eye out for shots that contrasted well with the sky. I think the shot with the lamps casts a ghostly atmosphere and I like the perspective here. The photo with the tree is another favourite of mine as the angles and colours all lend to a Gothic vibe.
